Resumo

This work was carried out in the Quilombola Community of Coxilha Negra, São Lourenço do Sul/RS, where semi-structured interviews were conducted with four of the community's oldest women. The aim was to find out what knowledge had an impact on the younger women's training for teaching in higher education. To this end, a qualitative case study was carried out, which dialogued with female quilombola researchers (Ferreira, Ribeiro Santana, Nogueira Soares, Sant’Anna), who contributed to the construction of the methodological paths during the fieldwork. From the fieldwork, some key categories were defined for understanding the processes of formal and non-formal education, starting with childhood, work, religious hybridity, schooling and the festivities that permeate these daily lives. In conclusion, it is clear that the older women's perception of the younger women is indirectly that studying and working outside the home makes being together weaker. Life, however, has always been about coming and going in an attempt to find work; the younger ones are following this path, but “with study”. The young women are not working at school, but they know that school cannot be the “place of the pain of color”.
